Advanced Foundation Paper Piecing
Come learn to build your skills in Foundation Paper Piecing. We will be sewing the Aloe plant from the Succulent Trio Quilt Block Pattern by Modern Quilting by B. The final product will be an 11” x 11” block that you can take home to turn into a mug rug, add it to a tote bag, start a new quilt or use in any future creative project!
Prerequisite – Students must be comfortable using their sewing machine – threading, filling a bobbin, changing their stitch length, etc. Students must be comfortable following a seam allowance and cutting with a rotary cutter.
Supplies provided by students:
Pattern –
- Purchase Pattern – Each student must purchase their own copy of The Succulent Trio Block from Modern Quilting by B. Students may not share files.
- Printed templates from pattern, please bring at least 3 copies of the pattern templates to use during class. We will only be working with the Aloe Plant for this class.
Fabric – non-directional prints are recommended
- Background Fabric – 1 Fat Quarter that contrasts with your plant and planter colors.
- Scraps for Plant pieces – Feel free to bring extras, just in case
- 3 different shades of green, 10” x 10” scrap for each color
- Planter pot – coordinating scraps
- 2 different shades of your color choice, 5” x 5” scrap for each color *If you don’t have a variety of scraps at home, feel free to grab fat quarters to use for the various colors.
Other –
- 1 Spool of Coordinating Thread
- Sewing Machine (Sew to Speak can provide a machine if needed) – make sure you have your cord, pedal, bobbin, and needle to be able to use your machine during class.
