Intro to FPP w/ Mallory – Tall Tales Quilt Block

Introduction to Foundation Paper Piecing

Come and learn the basics of Foundation Paper Piecing using The Tall Tales Block by Kate Basti. We will review the basic techniques as well as create your first block. The final project will be a block that you can take home to turn into a mug rug, add it to a tote bag, start a new quilt or use in any future creative project!

Prerequisite – Students must be comfortable using their sewing machine – threading, filling a bobbin, changing their stitch length, etc. Students must be comfortable following a seam allowance and cutting with a rotary cutter.

Final Block Size – approximately 7 ¾” x 9 ½”

Supplies provided by students:

Pattern –

  • Purchase Pattern – Each student must purchase their own copy of The Tall Tales Quilt Block from QuiltWithKate on Etsy. Students may not share files.
  • Printed templates from pattern, please bring at least 3 copies of the pattern templates to use during class. Print on thin computer paper, no heavy paper or card stock.

Fabric – non-directional prints are recommended

  • Background Fabric – Fat Quarter
  • Scraps for Book pieces – Feel free to bring extras, just in case. If you don’t have scraps a few Fat Quarters would be perfect as well.

  • Book Pages – Scrap that is at least 6” x 3”
  • Front Cover – Scrap that is at least 6” x 6”
