Description
Tiny Quilt Workshop with Sara Buscaglia of Farm & Folk
We are pleased to announce that Sara Buscaglia, the creator of Farm & Folk will be teaching a workshop in Columbus May 17-19, 2024! Sara is an artist, organic farmer and author of the book Farm & Folk Quilt Alchemy. She designs beautiful naturally dyed quilts that are often made from colors she grows on her Colorado farm. Join us for all or part of this three day experience including a book signing, a shopping social, an inspiring natural dye demo, and a two-day hand stitched quilting retreat.
Workshop overview
In this 2-day retreat we will make hand-stitched tiny quilts. Students will learn the basic quilt making skills required to make a tiny quilt from scratch including how to design, piece, assemble, hand quilt with expressive stitches, and how to finish the piece with a mitered corner binding.
Day 1:
On day one we will learn how to design an improv style tiny quilt from the fabrics that will be naturally dyed on Friday during the demo. Sara will also bring naturally dyed scraps from her personal stash for students to work with. Students will learn how to piece the scraps in an improv style and hand stitch a front and back for their tiny quilts.
Day 2:
On day two students will learn how to make a quilt sandwich, and how to hand quilt their pieces with their choice of thread, stitching styles and techniques that Sara will share. Students will also learn how to finish their quilts with a double-fold binding.
Sara will offer expert support and instruction, and students will work at their own pace depending on their experience level in this retreat-style workshop. For this reason, it is possible that not everyone will leave with a completed piece, but everyone will leave with the confidence and skill necessary to finish their quilt and/or create more quilts at home.
